Maegan initially started attending Sherwood Barks as a student in 2016; finding a passion for dog training. Maegan started spending more and more of her time at Sherwood Barks, volunteering, and then teaching group classes. In February 2020, she took the leap and left her 10 year career in finance to become the business owner of Sherwood Barks.
Maegan trained her first dog at the age of 8, competing in Conformation and Obedience trials as a junior handler. Maegan is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, and has been through rigorous testing of her knowledge and skills. She also ensures that Sherwood Barks doesn't use any forms of fear, intimidation, or pain to train dogs. She is passionate about dog sports and has fun with trick training. Today, Maegan participates in many dog sports including Agility, Disc, Flyball (a founding member of Ruff Go's Flyball Club), and is Trick Titled with Lexi and George. She teaches many of our classes.
Maegan has three dogs:
George, a 2 year old Cavalier - Poodle Mix
Lexi, a 6 year old Border Collie
Eli, an 11 year old German Shepherd Mix
After starting agility classes in 2017 with her brother's shepherd, Aadra found a passion for working with dogs. She loves the challenges that each dog brings, since none are the same and they all have something different to teach you. With her shepherd being quite reactive, it has taught her a lot about working with your dog’s strengths and advocating for them.
After getting her second dog, she began to shadow puppy classes and is now a full time instructor with Sherwood Barks! Aadra has thousands of hours of experience working with puppies in group classes and private sessions and is waiting to take her examination to become a certified professional dog trainer!
Aadra currently has both of her dogs in multiple dog sports such as agility, disc and flyball. Aadra has a BSc degree in mathematical sciences, and is working towards her Bachelor of Education Degree.
Aadra has two dogs;
Morten, a 5 year old GSD/King Shepherd
Nora, a 3 year old Australian Shepherd/Blue Heeler.
Amanda has been an animal lover her whole life. She had a menagerie of small animals growing up, from cats and hamsters, to snakes and rabbits. Her fondest memories though, are of her summers spent on her grandparent’s farm. While on the farm, Amanda spent her days trying to ride cows, collecting orphaned animals from the hay fields, turning barn cats into house cats and teaching the dogs how to dance.
When Amanda adopted her first dog, a Rottweiler puppy, she knew she’d found her soul mate and would need dogs in her life forever. After his passing, she became a foster home for dogs for a local rescue until eventually “foster failing” and Old English Sheepdog. While she does not currently have a canine companion in her life, the strays seem to be drawn to her and much to the delight of her two children, she is always happy to scoop them up and keep them safe until reunited with their families.
Amanda is currently working to complete her Dog Behavior and Training Methodology Certification through the Edmonton Humane Society, with the goal of becoming a Certified Professional Dog Trainer in the near future.
Amanda is currently owned by three rescue cats; Gilly, a 9 year old Tortie; Mable, a 6 year old grey manx; and Noodle, a 4 year old calico with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (pictured).
Sadie has always had a passion for working with animals but specifically dogs. She has been working with them for the past 7 years! She has worked in multiple fields of animal care from veterinary assisting to grooming but always with the ultimate goal of training. Her work at the Edmonton Humane Society since 2019 has shown her how much potential every pup has, regardless of their background!
Sadie is currently in pursuit of becoming a Certified Professional Dog Trainer. Her favorite thing in terms of training is tricks and sports, though she is new to it, she loves seeing dogs reach new levels of brilliance and confidence! Sadie is so excited to be a part of the Sherwood barks team, to continue to learn and further her education here!
Sadie has two dogs;
Bo, a 5 year old Border collie
Ducky, a Sheltie pup
