Sherwood Barks is rated in the top 3 Best Dog Trainers in Edmonton because of our Certified Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT) and passion of continuous education.
The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is the leader in the development of rigorous exams to demonstrate mastery of humane, science-based dog training practices in an industry that is, unfortunately, unregulated.
Course Level 1 and 2 begin with 15 minutes of supervised playtime in a safe and controlled environment!
We believe socialization with other puppies of the same age, size and temperament is important to you and your pup. Playtime before and throughout class is crucial! Keep in mind, not all pups enjoy or can handle group play. Puppies will be placed in groups on an individual basis.
We use force free, reward based training methods. These training methods are scientifically proven to be the most effective way to train, bond and have fun with our puppies.
No harsh corrections, intimidation, pain or discomfort will ever be used or permitted in our facility.
We use clickers as a positive reinforcement marker which helps our puppies understand the exact action they are being rewarded for. Clickers are a universal language that help bridge the gap between doggy language and human language!
Clickers help your puppy understand you better and are a requirement in our training facility.
Practice makes perfect!
Training at home is a large portion of your puppy's success in life.
Homework videos will be sent after every class as a reminder and aid in training at home.
All students and alumni are encouraged to join our private Facebook Group where students are welcome to ask questions, set up playdates, post photos, videos and get notified of upcoming classes!

Find out what you and your dog love in the world of dog sports!
One of the most popular dog sports in the world! Our classes are run in a similar way to true agility trials. This means dogs are benched in plastic kennels while other dogs are running. Most often, it is only one dog working at a time - this also allows our classes to be very reactive dog friendly!
Dogs must be over the age of 6 months and have strong skills in the following: Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, and Recall in distracting environments.
This is the first course in our agility program, it runs for 6 weeks, and you will be introduced to:

Leash Reactivity is known as dogs who lunge, bark and pull on leash at the sight of another dog or exciting trigger (cats, rabbits, leaves, people, etc).

This 1 hour clinic is ALL about loose leash walking out in the real world! We will be meeting at a local park (weather dependent) to practice our basic skills and add on a few more, with help along the way! If the weather is not conducive to an outdoor class, it will be held within our large agility space.
Is your pup good with recalls in small areas but as soon as they are in a larger space it seems like they've never heard their name in their life?!?
This 1 hour clinic is ALL about recalls in an enclosed, but much larger, outdoor environment (weather dependent) compared to puppy classes. If weather isn't conducive to an outdoor class, it will be run in our large agility space. During the hour, we will practice both recalls out of play and restrained recalls with distractions.
This 4 week course is geared towards helping you and your dog pass the Canine Good Neighbour Exam. "The Canine Good Neighbour Program is a 12-step test, that when completed successfully, will ensure that one of our most favoured companions, the dog, is accepted as a valued member of our communities right across the country. Canine Good Neighbours can be counted on to present good manners at home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs."
This 4 week course is geared toward you and your dog building a stronger bond and learning new things! We will spend the classes working on both enrichment activities and games that you can easily play at home - really nice for those days you just don't want to go outside. The activities are meant to be mentally enriching and stimulating, living a happy and tired pup after class!
